  • The Ledge #523: New Releases

Posted on June 4, 2022 1:29 am by theledge Comment

Once again, the monthly new release episode of The Ledge features some great new tunes from a variety of genres – Americana (Wilco, Drive-By Truckers, John Doe), power pop (Nick Piunti, The Sweet Things), indie rock (Dehd, Savak), and punk (Malta Vista, Screeching Weasel), among others.

There’s also great new releases from our friends at Rum Bar Records, Big Stir Records, and Spaghetty Town Records. What I’m most excited about, however, is the premiere of the new single featuring one of our Real Punk Radio DJ legends. Greg Lonesome, host of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Manifesto, has a new supergroup which also features Preacher Boy, Olsen Twin, and El Flyin’. Their two track single, which can be found here, is released tomorrow, and both smoking tracks can be heard on this week’s episode!

I would love it if every listener bought at least one record I played on either of these shows. These great artists deserve to be compensated for their hard work, and every purchase surely helps not only pay their bills but fund their next set of wonderful songs. And if you buy these records directly from the artist or label, please let them know you heard these tunes on The Ledge! Let them know who is giving them promotion!

  • The Ledge #463: Songs About The Ramones

Posted on February 20, 2021 2:25 am by theledge Comment

As I state at the beginning of the show, the initial idea for this theme came from the plethora of recent songs that mention The Ramones in the title, both individually and as a group. Add to that a few faves from the past, along with some great suggestions from social media, and I had a fantastic playlist to air tonight. And since the band was also known to write songs about their lives, there’s even a set of Ramones covers of songs of that sort.

After listening, please go purchase those tracks you enjoy! These great artists deserve to be compensated for their hard work, and every purchase surely helps not only pay their bills but fund their next set of wonderful songs.

  • The Ledge #447: Covers

Posted on October 17, 2020 1:45 am by theledge Comment

On one of my laptops I have a folder where I toss in any cover versions that I think could possibly include in a Ledge episode. Once that folder has a sufficient number of songs I know it’s time to do a covers show.

This is that time. The folder is full. Overloaded, in fact. So tonight is nothing but remakes of great tunes. Some of them are well-known songs by the likes of Tom Petty, John Lennon, and The Rolling Stones, and The Ramones. Others may not be so obvious, such as Freddie Dilevi’s version of “Johnny Remember Me”, a 1961 UK number one hit song by John Leyton. It’s a fun show that’s perfect for this time of endless political turmoil.

After listening, please go purchase those tracks you enjoy! These great artists deserve to be compensated for their hard work, and every purchase surely helps not only pay their bills but fund their next set of wonderful songs.

  • The Ledge #446: New Releases

Posted on October 10, 2020 1:37 pm by theledge Comment

Due to Gorman Bechard’s appearance last week, this month’s new release episode was bumped back a week. But this delay turned out to be for the benefit of the show, as it allowed for me to include some brand new tracks by The Replacements. Well, not brand new, of course, as they’re defunct but today marked the release of the Deluxe Edition box set of Pleased To Meet Me. Along with a remaster of the original record, this box set is full of demos and outtakes, and tonight’s show kicks off with a handful of songs that didn’t originally make the cut.

After that it’s the typical collection of great new punk, indie, garage, and Americana releases. Some of the highlights include new albums by the likes of Lydia Loveless, Drive-By Truckers, and Bob Mould. There’s also the usual lengthy section devoted to new music from Rum Bar Records. How does Lou keep finding these great new bands?

  • The Ledge #436: Double Albums

Posted on July 18, 2020 1:18 am by theledge Comment

It was a few weeks ago when Sonic Youth’s “Teenage Riot” came up in a Spotify playlist, and it spurred my feeble mind into this week’s show format. This week is a countdown of my 15 favorite double albums of all time. As always, I do have too many rules. No live albums. No compilatoins. No single albums expanded to two pieces of vinyl by nefarious ways (bonus tracks, 45 speed, etc.). Real double albums.

So the results is an interesting mix spanning over 50 years. From top sellers by the world’s biggest bands to landmark college rock albums to a few more recent masterpieces. Feel free to comment on YOUR favorite double albums as I certainly acknowledge there are so many seminal records missing from this list.

After listening, please go purchase those tracks you enjoy! These great artists deserve to be compensated for their hard work, and every purchase surely helps not only pay their bills but fund their next set of wonderful songs.

Another month, another collection of great new music. Unlike previous editions, though, this month’s show features a ton of one-off single releases of tracks recorded under quarantine. In fact, just minutes before The Ledge went to air on Realpunkradio, the Drive-By Truckers snuck ou a surprise new tune, “Quarantine Together”. It’s so cool to see musicians utilizing these troubled times as a catalyst to create new tunes.

  • Live Ledge #405: New Releases

Posted on December 7, 2019 2:43 am by theledge Comment

We’re wrapping up the year with some great episodes. This week features the final new release episode of the year, and there’s some great new tunes by artists such as Two Cow Garage’s Micah Schnabel, Graham Parker, Drive-By Truckers, The Whiffs, Gino and the Goons, and so many more.

This month also sees the debut album for local post-punkers Lot Lizard, and I’m so proud of what they accomplished on this record. For more info, check out their bandcamp page!

Besides all the new tracks, I made a last minute executive decision to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Rolling Stones’ disastrous Altamont concert. I have a feeling some time during this weekend I’m going to have to once again view “Gimme Shelter”.

After listening, please go purchase those tracks you enjoy!
