  • The Ledge #715: New Releases Pt. 2

    On last week’s new release episode I highlighted an entire section to the new album by The Sleeveens. This week I do the same thing to my good friends High On Stress, but instead of adding my own description of how great they are I’m going to leave it to the legendary Twin/Tone Records founder Peter Jesperson – “With album #6 – Still Here – Minneapolis band High On Stress deliver their finest work yet. Full of tightly written, smart songs that stick in your head. It rocks like mad, sounds great, and when it’s over, I just want to play it again.”

    The High On Stress segment is just the tip of the iceberg for this month’s Rum Bar Records segment, as there’s another entire set of fantastic new rock and roll from that fabulous label. There’s also some tracks from the latest Dam-nations compilation, and a few tunes from our friends at Stardumb Records and Spaghetty Town Records. There’s the latest covers project from Rob Moss and Skin-Tight Skin. Plus all kinds of punk, power pop, and good ol’ fashioned garage rock!

  • The Ledge #592: New Releases (Pt. 1)

    Once again, there’s so much great music being released each and every week that this month’s new release show is a two-part extravaganza! Part one is admittedly heavy on the power pop – Uni Boys, The Speedways, The Len Price 3, and many others. There’s also twin blasts from rock and roll buddies Geoff Palmer and Brad Marino, along with tracks from their friends in the Rum Bar Records family. I could go on and on about what’s included in this episode, but why don’t you just dive in and discover your new faves!

    As for this week’s “52 Weeks of Teenage Kicks” segment, I have another unknown treat that I discovered on YouTube. This version is from “The Pauline”, and about all I have found out about this artist is that they hail from Indonesia. I’d love to know more about this musician!  Like I do every week, however, I must again plead with y’all for more versions of “Teenage Kicks”. If you are a musician, or have any contact with artists that could record their own take on the classic, please contact me!

  • The Ledge #545: New Releases

    I am proud to present to you the final new release episode of The Ledge of 2022. It’s been quite a year, full of fabulous new punk, power pop, garage, and indie rock. I’m now in the process of creating my “best of 2022” list that will be unveiled in two weeks.

    Tonight’s episode is truly a wordwide collection, as not only are there fabulous new tunes from the usual American and Canadian cities but there are trcks from Japan, Sweden, Italy, Spain, France, and the UK. There’s also a great set of 90’s shoegaze from Minneapolis that has just been compiled on a record called Southeast of Saturn, Vol. 2 on Third Man Records. As usual, there’s also a fun little set of new tunes from our friends at Rum Bar Records.  

    I would love it if every listener bought at least one record I played on either of these shows. These great artists deserve to be compensated for their hard work, and every purchase surely helps not only pay their bills but fund their next set of wonderful songs. And if you buy these records directly from the artist or label, please let them know you heard these tunes on The Ledge! Let them know who is giving them promotion!
