  • The Ledge #665: New Releases Pt. 1

Posted on May 3, 2025 1:15 am by theledge Comment

Once again, The Ledge new release series travels the globe for the latest in quality rock and roll. From Rapid City, SD (Friends of Cesar Romero) to Sydney, Australia (Game Set Match), with various stops all over the US and Europe. There’s solo sets from High on Stress leader Nick Leet, Forty Nineteens leader Nick Z, and longtime Brian Wilson touring member Nelson Bragg. There’s the triumphant return of The Minus 5, and the latest chapter in the Viagra Boys story. Plus our usual monthly contribution from our buddies Numb Surprise. And, of course, a lot more.

  • The Ledge #664: Record Store Day

Posted on April 26, 2025 1:21 am by theledge Comment

The Ledge is back! Yes, I did announce that it was unlikely that I’d have a show this week due to my recent medical procedure. But I seem to be recuperating nicely, so why not put together a show? I do chat about my experiences at the top of the program, and I do want to thank everyone that reached out to say they were thinking of me. It’s so much appreciated.

As for this week’s broadcast, it’s all about Record Store Day. Yes, I know there are a lot of people that are not fans of this event. It didn’t help that this year included a couple of mainstream titles that should have had better availability (in other words, a much higher pressing). Yes, I understand that most people don’t care about rarities such as outtakes and live recordings. I get it. If that’s your belief then stay away!

But I love everything about it. It’s the one day that this curmudgeon hangs with the crowd before the doors open. I enjoy chatting with folks about what they’re hoping to find, or what they’ve bought in the past. And yes, I do love live albums. I do love rare mixes. I love obscure, long out of print collaborations between unlikely artists. Gimme gimme gimme!

So tonight’s show celebrates this spring’s model. There are a ton of live albums. There’s the almost forgotten Hindu Love Gods, which saw Warren Zevon paired up with 3 of the 4 members of R.E.M. There’s a crazy alternative version of the first Public Image Ltd. album. The list goes on and on. Dive in tonight’s show and relive the special day.

  • The Ledge #631: Inside The Hudson Compound

Posted on August 17, 2024 1:14 am by theledge Comment

If you follow me on the ol’ Instagram, you may have noticed that every Saturday night I post a collage of my Last.FM stats that, for the most part, highlights the vinyl I’ve played in my home over the past week.  So I figured why not put together a broadcast featuring songs from those very albums I’ve enjoyed over the past couple of months?

Soon enough I had enough tracks for not one but two separate shows, so look for a sequel next week. This week’s show features almost 60 years of great rock and roll, from 60’s psych to 70s glam to late 70s punk, along with a couple of side trips to Americana and Minneapolis. This is certainly a glimpse into what fuels my existence on a daily basis!

Also, please head to YouTube and subscribe to our channel – Public Domain Classics 888. We have close to 500 classic films from over 110 years of releases!

  • The Ledge #567: New Releases, Pt. 1 (RSD Edition)

Posted on May 6, 2023 1:19 am by theledge Comment

Thanks to last week’s unseasonably chilly weather, I found myself hooking up a turntable to my podcast mixer. Over the course of the next few hours I dgitized the pile of records I had picked up on Record Store Day a few weeks ago. (Why do they no longer include download codes?)

Once finished, I decided that this wonderful pile of music deserved it’s own show, and since the start of every month commences with a “new release” episode (or two), why not spotlight this music? Technically, these are all new releases as they came out on the same day, even if some of the music dates back sixty years.

So that’s what we have tonight. Two hours of Record Store Day highlights. From garage rock compilations to long out print albums to live recordings to specially recorded rarities, tonight’s show is varied in not only years but genres. There should be something for everybody. But true new music fans should not worry, as next week’s second part will be a more traditional “new release”, and I have a ton of great material set aside for the show.

Of course, the one non-RSD track is this week’s edition of the “52 Weeks of Teenage Kicks” series. I’ve selected one of the more popular versions of the tune. The Northern Irish rockers Ash released it as a b-side back in 2001, and reportedly still ocassionally pulls it out in concert.

And once again, I must reiterate that I’m looking for brand new recordings of The Undertones’ classic. If you have the capability, or you have friends in a band, please submit a version. BTW, in two weeks I will be premiering a brand new version by a band that all Ledge fans are familiar with.
